In come the Gillard years (hopefully)…

I’ve got to hand it to you, Australia. You get an idea in your head (e.g. let’s change PMs) and – ta-dah! – it’s done.

Goodbye, Mandarin-speaking KRudd. Hello, first female PM JGillard.

I’m hanging out to see how Gilly gets down to business.

    >fingers crossed because the alternative to that would be the Abbott years. *shudders*

    >Without Rudd's clever Kevin 07 campaign, we would never have gotten rid of Howard. I hope Gillard manages to play politics and insidiously subverts redneck opinions. Deep down, I don't think Rudd wanted to lock up asylum seekers, but he was desperate to not lose the election. That was brutal.

    >Re Abbott years: I share the shudders about this possibility, but there's also the possibility that Tony will be ousted in turn because there's talk TA was a good 'match' for KR, and he may not be so for JG.I really wish Gilly didn't get in under such circumstances, and I hope she isn't the 'cleaning lady', as Eva Cox as warned about (HERE).I feel for Rudd quite a bit. No fun being ambushed like that, plus he really did set out with an ambitious and potentially transformative agenda. It's dangerous to underestimate how hard some will fight to retain the status quo.

    >I woke up this morning feeling really bad for Rudd. I believe in what he was trying to do, and think that his spin doctors were too inexperienced. Also a little scary that all this happens when he tries to stop multinationals from mining the shit out of Australia without giving something back. I just think he didn't know how to play the dirty game of politics. He was too honest with his agenda. The thing also is that I'm sure Julia Gillard, had she been a penis, would have been voted in as leader over Rudd at the 07 Beazley spill. Gosh. I don't have the stomach for business or politics. Yeah I feel for KR…Also the problem I think with our system is the democracy process seems only to be democratic for people in marginal seats…On a lighter note, who will play Gillard and RUdd in the telemovie about this spill?

    >Yes, totally agree that Gilly would've been top of the heap by now if she were he. It's more than weird that the men who have put her in power are the right wing Labor 'head kickers' (I've always hated that term).Important things: telemovie?Gilly would have to be Tilda Swinton (TS about to star in movie version of "We Need To Talk about Kevin"…hah), or Miranda Otto.Ruddy…hmmm. I'm drawing a blank here.(are you on twitter anymore? I'm having a bit of a renaissance there)

    >I'm with you, Tseen, on Gillard. Woo Hoo! But, oh, I'm conflicted! I have no gauge of Aus political environment and only have online news and blogs to base my views upon (and I don't really trust mainstream media very much).I love the idea of Tilda Swinton playing JG, though. Great fit. What about an older Clark Gable playing KRudd? Or the actor John Howard. Love that guy (the *actor* that is)And Abbott? I did not think anyone would be worse than Howard, mostly because I thought Abbot was way too crazy and marginal to ever be leader of the Opp. Oh, how wrong I was. And, in my books, he is definitely much worse than Howard. I was so depressed when he became leader of the opp, that I could not even blog about it!

    >YES! Tilda Swinton! Of course! Rudd…Gary Sweet with wig and glasses? I've noticed your increase in on-line activities! No don't have twitter.
